Engine Flywheel Replacement^ Tools Required
- J 36660-A Torque Angle Meter
Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the transaxle assembly.
3. If equipped with a manual transmission, remove the clutch and pressure plate.
4. Remove the eight flywheel retaining bolts.
5. Remove the flywheel from the crankshaft.
6. Clean any grease or dirt from the crankshaft flange outer surface using a suitable solvent.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the flywheel to the crankshaft.
Notice: Refer to Apply the Proper Amount of the Sealant to the Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
2. Apply GM P/N 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) or the equivalent, to the flywheel retaining bolt threads (1).
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
3. For vehicles equipped with an Automatic Transmission, install the flywheel retaining bolts (1-8) to the crankshaft.
^ Tighten the eight flywheel retaining bolts in sequence for Automatic Transmission to 83 Nm (61 lb ft).
4. For vehicles equipped with a Manual Transmission, install the flywheel retaining bolts to the crankshaft.
^ Tighten the eight flywheel retaining bolts in sequence for Manual Transmission to 49 Nm (36 lb ft). After the proper torque has been reached, use a J 36660-A and tighten the flywheel bolts an additional 90°.
5. If equipped with a manual transmission, install the clutch and pressure plate.
6. Install the transaxle assembly.
7. Connect the negative battery cable.
^ Tighten the battery cable bolt to 15 Nm (11 lb ft).
