Engine Flywheel Replacement^ Tools Required
- J 36660-A Torque Angle Meter
Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the transaxle assembly.
3. If equipped with a manual transmission, remove the clutch and pressure plate.
4. Remove the 8 flywheel retaining bolts.
5. Remove the flywheel from the crankshaft.
6. Clean any grease or dirt from the crankshaft flange outer surface using a suitable solvent.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the flywheel to the crankshaft.
Notice: Refer to Excessive Adhesive on Flywheel Bolts Notice in Service Precautions.
2. Apply GM P/N 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) or the equivalent, to the flywheel retaining bolt threads (1).
3. For vehicles equipped with an Automatic Transmission, install the flywheel retaining bolts (1-8) to the crankshaft.
^ Tighten the 8 flywheel retaining bolts in sequence for Automatic Transmission to 83 Nm (61 lb ft).
4. For vehicles equipped with a Manual Transmission, install the flywheel retaining bolts to the crankshaft.
4.1. Tighten the 8 flywheel retaining bolts in sequence for Manual Transmission to 49 Nm (36 lb ft).
4.2. After the proper torque has been reached, us a J 36660-A and tighten the flywheel bolts an additional 90°.
5. If equipped with a manual transmission, install the clutch and pressure plate.
6. Install the transaxle assembly.
7. Connect the negative battery cable.
^ Tighten the battery cable bolt to 15 Nm (11 lb ft).
