Power Door Locks - Inoperative - Key Cylinder Switches

POWER DOOR LOCKS INOPERATIVE - KEY CYLINDER SWITCHES

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
The key cylinder switch, also known as the door cylinder switch, is a built in part of the door lock actuator. It is connected, by means of a mechanical rod, to the door lock cylinder, which is mounted to the exterior of the door. In order to unlock the vehicles doors, the key cylinder switch is activated by inserting the door key into the door lock cylinder and turning to the unlock position. The door key can either be turned and held to the unlock position for 3-5 seconds, or turned to the unlock position twice within 3-5 seconds in order to activate the feature. For more information concerning the Key Cylinder Switch and its function, refer to the Central Door Unlock section of the Power Door Locks Description and Operation.

Two ground circuits are included in the harness connector of the door lock actuator. Where it is necessary to connect a fused jumper wire between the door cylinder switch signal and ground circuits of this connector, be sure to use the ground circuit of the door cylinder switch. Connecting the switch signal circuit to the inappropriate ground circuit of the harness connector may result in misdiagnosis.
