Disc Brake Splash Shield Replacement- Front

Removal Procedure





1. Remove the front brake rotor. Refer to Brake Rotor Replacement - Front.
2. If you are removing the left front brake shield, turn the steering wheel to the left. If you are removing the right front brake shield, turn the steering wheel to the right.
3. Lift the locking tab on the wheel speed sensor connector (4).
4. Disconnect the connector from the knuckle.
5. If necessary to gain access, remove and discard the 2 nuts and the 2 bolts (1, 2) that retain the strut to the knuckle.
6. Loosen the 3 Allen bolts (3, 5) on the knuckle.
7. If necessary, tap the 3 Allen bolts in order to loosen the hub from the knuckle.





8. Remove the 3 Allen bolts and the hub (9) from the knuckle (5).
9. Use a drill in order to remove the heads of the 3 rivets (4).
10. Remove the brake shield (7) from the knuckle.
11. Use a drill in order to remove the remains of the rivets from the knuckle.

Installation Procedure





1. Clean the mating surfaces of the knuckle (6). Verify the mating surfaces are free from burrs.
2. Install the brake shield (7) to the knuckle.
3. Verify the position of the brake shield is correct in order to provide clearance for the brake caliper.
4. Install a pop-rivet (4) to the round hole (3) in order to retain the shield to the knuckle.
5. Install 2 pop-rivets to the 2 remaining holes (8).
6. Clean the mating surfaces of the hub (2, 9). Verify the mating surfaces are free from burrs.
7. Align the sensor connection on the hub with the hole in the knuckle.
8. Install the hub to the knuckle.





Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Important: The 3 Allen bolts that retain the hub to the knuckle have thread sealant. Do not re-use the bolts more than 3 times. If in doubt, replace the 3 Allen bolts.

9. Install the 3 Allen bolts (3, 5).
- Tighten the bolts to 108 Nm (80 ft. lbs.).
10. Connect the wheel speed sensor connector (4).
11. Verify the locking tab on the connector is secure.
12. If you removed the 2 nuts and the 2 bolts (1, 2) that retain the strut to the knuckle, install NEW nuts and bolts.
12.1. Tighten the nuts to 85 Nm (63 ft. lbs.).
12.2. Tighten the nuts to 100 Am (74 ft. lbs.).
12.3. Use the J 45059 in order to tighten the nuts an additional 90°.
13. Install the brake rotor. Refer to Brake Rotor Replacement - Front.
