Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement- RightRemoval Procedure
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery.
2. Remove the front suspension support brace if necessary.
3. Remove the fuel rail covers.
4. Disconnect the air intake sensor connector (2) from the air intake sensor.
5. Loosen the hose clamps (1, 3) securing the intake duct.
6. Remove the intake duct from the vehicle.
7. Remove the spark plug wires from the ignition coils.
^ Twist the spark plug wire boot 1/2 turn.
^ Pull only on the boot in order to remove the wire from the ignition coil.
8. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) clip (1)
9. Disconnect the ignition coil wire harness main electrical connector (4).
10. Remove the ignition coil bracket bolts and screw from the rocker arm cover.
11. Remove the ignition coil bracket from the rocker arm cover.
12. Remove the valve rocker arm cover bolts.
13. Remove the valve rocker arm cover.
14. Remove the gasket (1) from the rocker cover.
15. Discard the OLD gasket.
16. Remove the oil fill cap from the oil fill tube.
17. Remove the oil fill tube, if required.
18. Discard the oil fill tube.
19. Clean and inspect the valve rocker arm cover.
Installation Procedure
Important:
^ All gaskets surfaces should be free of oil and other foreign material during assembly.
^ DO NOT reuse the valve rocker arm cover gasket.
^ The valve rocker arm cover bolt grommets may be reused.
^ If the oil fill tube has been removed from the rocker arm cover, install a NEW fill tube during assembly.
1. Lubricate the O-ring seal of the NEW oil fill tube with clean engine oil.
2. Insert the NEW oil fill tube into the rocker arm cover. Rotate the tube clockwise until locked in the proper position.
3. Install the oil fill cap into the tube. Rotate the cap clockwise until locked in the proper position.
4. Install a NEW gasket (1) into the valve rocker lip.
5. Install the valve rocker arm cover onto the cylinder head.
6. Install NEW rocker arm cover bolt grommets, if necessary.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
7. Install the rocker arm cover bolts.
^ Tighten the valve rocker arm cover bolts to 12 Nm (106 inch lbs.).
8. Apply threadlock GM P/N 12345382, (Canadian P/N 10953489), or equivalent to the threads of the bracket studs.
9. Install the ignition coil bracket to the rocker arm cover.
10. Install the ignition coil bracket studs to the rocker arm cover.
^ Tighten the ignition coil bracket studs to 12 Nm (106 inch lbs.).
11. Connect the ignition coil wire harness main electrical connector (4).
12. Install the CPA clip (1).
13. Install the spark plug wires to the ignition coils.
14. Install the intake duct to the vehicle.
15. Secure the intake duct with the hose clamps (1, 3).
16. Connect the air intake sensor connector (2) to the air intake sensor.
17. Install the fuel rail covers.
18. Install the front suspension support brace.
19. Connect the negative battery cable to the battery.
