Subject:
Proper Jump Starting Procedure
Models:
2004-2005 Pontiac GTO
This bulletin is meant to inform technicians of the possibility of burnt-out headlamp bulbs as the result of incorrect jump-starting of the vehicle, especially if the battery is at an extremely low state of charge (less than 3 volts).
If the jumper cables are disconnected too quickly, the generator creates a momentary voltage spike until the regulator is able to adjust to the new load condition.
When jump-starting, ensure that both vehicles run for at least one minute prior to disconnecting the jumper cables. This allows the battery voltage to stabilize and avoid any spike in the voltage.
