Driver or Passenger Seat Squeaks in Full Down Position (Trim Seat Cushion Outer Panel)

Models:
2004 Pontiac GTO

Condition

Some customers may comment on a squeak from the driver or passenger seat while driving with the seat in the full down position.

Cause





The seat cushion outer trim panel contacting the seat track outer cover when the seat is full down may cause this noise.

Correction

This condition can be corrected by trimming some material off the seat cushion outer trim panel at the area of contact.

Use the procedure listed below.

1. Remove the seat cushion outer trim panel from the seat. Refer to the Seat Cushion Outer Trim Panel Replacement procedure in the Seats sub-section of the Service Manual.

Important:
Trimming the material on a bench grinder is the preferred method. Remove any sharp edges.





2. Trim 8 mm (0.314 in) of material from the panel as shown.

3. Reinstall the seat cushion outer trim panel.

4. Check that the interference is eliminated.
