File In Section: 08 - Body and Accessories

Bulletin No.: 04-08-68-003

Date: September, 2004

TECHNICAL

Subject:
Knock or Thud Noise When Cruise Control is On or Off (Install Washer at Rear Mounting Point)

Models:
2004 Pontiac GTO

Condition

Some customers may comment that a knock or thud noise can be heard in their vehicle when the cruise control is on and even when it is off.

Cause

This noise may be caused by a lack of clearance between the cruise control module (1) and the ABS/cruise control module mounting bracket. The noise is transmitted into the vehicle through the body at the contact point (2) shown.

Correction

Install a washer (1), P/N 11509262, to the rear mounting point as shown in the illustration above. This will provide clearance between the cruise control module assembly (1) and the sheet metal bracket.
