Subject:
Speedometer MPH Indicator Too Bright (Reduce MPH Indicator Brightness Using Tech 2(R))

Models:
2004 Pontiac GTO

Built Prior to VIN Breakpoint 4L299640

Condition

Some customers may comment that the MPH indicator on the speedometer is too bright during night driving and that it does not dim with the IP lamps.

Correction

Follow the procedure below using the Tech 2(R) to reduce the brightness of the speedometer MPH indicator. This procedure must be followed exactly.

Important:
The Tech 2(R) must contain software version 24.005 or later available from Techline(R) starting July 2004, on the TIS 2000 version TIS 07/2004 data update or later.

1. Install the Tech 2(R) to the vehicle and power on.

2. Select "Diagnostic" from the menu.

3. Build the vehicle from the menu options.

4. Select "Body" from the menu.

5. Select the correct transmission type.

6. Select "Instrument Panel Cluster" from the menu.

7. Select "Special Functions" from the menu.

8. Select "Programming" from the menu.

9. Select "Instrument Configuration" from the menu.

10. Press Enter.

11. Press "Change Data". Even though the screen deals with tire size and speed pulses, the data stream changes the MPH indicator brightness.
