Models:
2004 Oldsmobile Alero

with 3.4L V6 Engine (VIN E - RPO LA1)

Supercede:

This bulletin is being revised to update the calibration information. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 04-06-04-014 (Section 06-Engine).

Condition

Some owners may comment on a no start or stall immediately after starting. This generally occurs when the vehicle is quickly shifted into gear after engine cranking begins.

Cause

With the introduction of PCM controlled starting, the customer now has the ability to release the ignition and attempt to shift the vehicle into gear before the engine has actually started. This creates either a no start or start stall condition.

Correction

Reprogram the PCM with the latest calibration using the appropriate Service Manual procedure.

The new calibrations were released beginning with TIS satellite data update version 2.0 for 2004, available February 2004. As always, make sure your TECH 2(R) is updated with the latest software version.
