Condition

Some customers may comment that the day of the week and the date do not agree as shown on the Driver's Information Center (DIC).

Cause

This condition is caused by an anomaly in the 6-disc CD/radio software for vehicles built prior to January 6, 2004.

Correction:

Important:
Determine if the vehicle was built prior to January 6, 2004, by running the VIN in GMVIS. Vehicles built January 6th and later already contain the new radio software.

Permanent Solution:

A supply of 6-Disc CD/radios with updated software are now available through the 8 US Electronic Service Centers (ESC's)/3 Canada SuperStores. A list of Exchange Centers/Superstores is shown.

Important:
^ Due to limited supplies of the 6-disc CD/radio it is imperative that radios are not ordered for stock.

^ Unless you request the correct part number, the radio and HVAC heads will NOT match.

There are currently three different part numbers for the 6 disc CD/radios that are in vehicles which have been built prior to January 6, 2004. To insure the correct replacement radio is shipped, the correct part number of the radio from the vehicle you are servicing must be supplied to the exchange center. The radio part number must be obtained by following the steps using the Tech 2(R):

1. Enter the "diagnostics" section of the Tech 2(R) for the 2004 Pontiac W-Car

2. Select F1: Body

3. Select F7: Radio

4. Select F1: Data Display

5. Select FO: Module Information to obtain the 8-digit radio part number

Important:
The replacement radio will come packaged with a pre-printed overnight shipping label. To help replenish the stock at the reman centers, it is critical that the original radio be repackaged and shipped to the reman centers upon receipt of the replacement radio immediately after removal of the radio from the customer's car. This will minimize 6-disc CD/radio shortages at the reman/exchange centers.
