Instrument Panel (IP) - Trim Pad Replacement



Instrument Panel Trim Pad Replacement (Pontiac)

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Restraint System Service Precautions in Service Precautions.

1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling and SIR Disabling and Enabling in Restraint Systems.
2. With a flat-bladed tool, remove the defroster grille from the instrument panel (I/P) trim pad.




3. Remove the I/P upper trim panel (4) by lifting upward to release the retainers.
4. Remove the screws from the I/P outer trim cover.
5. Remove the I/P outer trim covers.
6. Remove the I/P accessory trim plate.
7. Remove the screws (1) from the right I/P trim panel.
8. Remove the right I/P trim panel (3).
9. Remove the screws (1) attaching the I/P trim pad (2).
10. Remove the I/P trim pad (2) from the I/P carrier.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the I/P trim pad (2) to the I/P carrier.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the screws (1) attaching the I/P trim pad (2) to the I/P carrier.

Tighten the screws to 2.3 N.m (20 lb in).

3. Install the right I/P trim panel (3).
4. Install the screws to the right I/P trim panel (1).

Tighten the screws to 2.3 N.m (20 lb in).

5. Install the I/P accessory trim plate.
6. Install the I/P outer trim covers.
7. Install the screws to the I/P outer trim cover.

Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).

8. Install the I/P upper trim panel (4) by pushing downward until the retainers are fully seated.
9. Install the defroster grille to the I/P carrier.
Press the defroster grille into the I/P carrier until the retaining tabs are secured.
10. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling and SIR Disabling and Enabling in Restraint Systems.
