Fluid - Transfer Case: Service and Repair
Oil Replacement1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Place a drain pan or suitable container under the transfer case.
3. Remove the transfer case oil level/filler plug (2) from the transfer case.
4. Remove the transfer case drain plug (1) from the transfer case and drain the transfer case oil.
5. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
Place the transfer case drain plug into the transfer case.
Tighten the transfer case drain plug to 49 Nm (36 ft. lbs.).
6. Add approximately 0.8 liters (0.85 qts.) of 80W-90 GL5 lubricant or equivalent, into the oil level/filler plug hole. The oil level should be even with the bottom of the oil level/filler plug hole.
7. Place the transfer case oil level/filler plug (2) into the transfer case.
Tighten the case oil level/filler plug to 49 Nm (36 ft. lbs.).
8. Lower the vehicle.
