Steering Wheel Replacement

- J 1859-A Steering Wheel Puller
- J 42578 Steering Wheel Puller Legs
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the upper steering column trim cover.
Caution: Refer to Restraint Systems in Service Precautions.
2. Disable the Restraints system. Refer to Restraint Systems Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 in Restraint Systems.
3. Remove the inflator module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in Restraint Systems.
4. Disconnect the steering wheel control electrical connector (1).
5. Remove the steering wheel nut.
6. Install J 42578 and J 1859-A to the steering wheel.
7. Use J 42578 and J 1859-A in order to remove the steering wheel.
8. Remove J 42578 and J 1859-A from the steering wheel.
9. Remove the controls and the control harness from the steering wheel.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the controls and the control harness to the steering wheel.
2. Route the steering column wiring through the steering wheel.
3. Install the steering wheel.
4. Connect the steering wheel control electrical connector (1).
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
5. Install the steering wheel nut.
^ Tighten the nut to 32 Nm (24 ft. lbs.).
6. Install the inflator module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in Restraint Systems.
7. Install the upper steering column trim cover.
8. Enable the Restraints system. Refer to Restraint Systems Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 in Restraint Systems.
