Condition

Some customers may comment that in cold weather, especially as the front windshield defroster duct air warms up the vehicle, they hear a clicking, ticking, or cracking type noise from the front of dash.

Cause

Thermal expansion/contraction may cause this noise. The expansion may be between the dash carrier and the clips attached to the trim panel (defroster grille cover) or the clip to the trim panel (defroster grille cover).

Correction

1. Remove the windshield side upper garnish molding by unsnapping the plastic cover at the top. Remove the screw and pull inward to release the center retaining clip on the molding.

2. Remove the trim panel (defroster grille) following SI Document # 1470558. The drawing in the SI document shows 10 clips. The G6 has 8.

3. Remove the retaining clips (8) from the trim panel and apply 3M(TM) Squeak Reduction Tape to the towers of the panel and reinstall the clips.

4. Apply 3M(TM) Squeak Reduction Tape into the slots (8) in the IP.

5. Reinstall the trim panel.

6. Reinstall the windshield side upper garnish molding.

Parts Information
