Power Steering Gear Inlet Pipe/Hose Replacement
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the engine protection shield.
2. Place a drain pan under the vehicle in order to catch any power steering fluid.
3. Notice: Refer to Power Steering Hose Disconnected Notice in Service Precautions.
Remove the power steering gear inlet pipe (15) and the flare nut from the power steering pump.
4. Remove and discard the O-ring (3) from the high pressure port on the pump.
5. Remove the 2 bolts that retain the inlet pipe to the engine bracket.
6. Remove the 1 bolt that retains the inlet pipe to the frame.
7. Remove the inlet pipe and the flare nut from the power steering gear.
8. Remove and discard the O-ring (1) from the steering gear inlet port.
Installation Procedure
1. Notice: Refer to Installing Hoses without Twists or Bends Notice in Service Precautions.
Apply GM Goodwrench Automatic Transmission Fluid DEXRON(R)-III, GM P/N 12378470, or the equivalent ATF, in order to lubricate a NEW O-ring (1) for the inlet port on the power steering gear.
2. Notice:
Install the power steering gear inlet pipe and the NEW O-ring to the steering gear.
Tighten the flare nut to 36 Nm (27 ft. lbs.).
3. Apply GM Goodwrench Automatic Transmission Fluid DEXRON(R)-III, GM P/N 12378470, or the equivalent ATF, in order to lubricate a NEW O-ring (3) for the high pressure port on the pump.
4. Install the gear inlet pipe and a NEW O-ring to the power steering pump.
Tighten the flare nut to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.).
5. Install the bolt in order to retain the inlet pipe to the frame.
Tighten the bolt to 6.5 Nm (57.5 inch lbs.).
6. Install the 2 bolts in order to retain the inlet pipe to the engine bracket.
Tighten the 2 bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
7. Notice: Refer to Using Proper Power Steering Fluid Notice in Service Precautions.
Fill the power steering fluid reservoir.
8. Notice: Refer to Air in the Power Steering System Notice in Service Precautions.
Bleed the power steering system.
9. Install the engine protection shield.
