Power Steering Gear Outlet Pipe/Hose Replacement
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the engine protection shield.
2. Place a drain pan under the vehicle in order to catch any power steering fluid.





3. Notice: Refer to Power Steering Hose Disconnected Notice in Service Precautions.

Loosen the 2 hose clamps (11, 12) that retain the 2 power steering fluid cooler hoses to the 2 power steering gear outlet pipes (10, 13).
4. Remove the 2 gear outlet pipes from the 2 cooler hoses.
5. Remove the 2 bolts (6, 8) from the gear outlet pipe clips on the front frame.
6. Remove the bolt (4) that retains the outlet pipe to the left frame.
7. Loosen the hose clamp (5) that retains the power steering fluid reservoir inlet hose to the gear outlet pipe.
8. Remove the gear outlet pipe from the reservoir inlet hose.
9. Remove the gear outlet pipe and the flare nut from the steering gear.
10. Remove and discard the O-ring (17) from the outlet port on the steering gear.
11. Remove the 2 clips (7, 9) from the pipes.

Installation Procedure





1. Notice: Refer to Installing Hoses without Twists or Bends Notice in Service Precautions.

Apply GM Goodwrench Automatic Transmission Fluid DEXRON(R)-III, GM P/N 12378470, or the equivalent ATF, in order to lubricate a NEW O-ring (17) for the outlet port on the power steering gear.

2. Notice:

Install the power steering gear outlet pipe and a NEW O-ring to the steering gear.
Tighten the flare nut to 36 Nm (27 ft. lbs.).
3. Install the 2 outlet pipes (10, 13) to the 2 power steering fluid cooler hoses. Install the 2 hose clamps (11, 12).
4. Install the outlet pipe to the power steering fluid reservoir inlet hose. Install the hose clamp (5).
5. Install the bolt (4) in order to retain the outlet pipe to the left frame.
Tighten the bolt to 6.5 Nm (57.5 inch lbs.).
6. Install the 2 clips (7, 9) and the 2 bolts (6, 8) to the 2 outlet pipes.
Tighten the 2 bolts to 6.5 Nm (57.5 inch lbs.).

7. Notice: Refer to Using Proper Power Steering Fluid Notice in Service Precautions.

Fill the power steering fluid reservoir.

8. Notice: Refer to Air in the Power Steering System Notice in Service Precautions.

Bleed the power steering system.
9. Install the engine protection shield.
