Accumulator HVAC: Service and Repair
ACCUMULATOR REPLACEMENTTOOLS REQUIRED
J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Recover the refrigerant.
2. Remove the right front fender liner.
3. Remove the nut holding the compressor hose to the accumulator.
4. Remove the compressor hose from the accumulator.
5. Remove and discard the seal washer.
6. Remove the evaporator hose nut from the accumulator.
7. Remove the evaporator hose from the accumulator.
8. Remove and discard the seal washer.
9. Remove the accumulator bracket bolt.
10. Remove the accumulator with the bracket from the vehicle.
11. Remove the accumulator from the insulator and the bracket.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Add the required amount of new refrigerant oil to a new accumulator.
IMPORTANT: You must add refrigerant oil to a new accumulator.
2. Install the insulator and the bracket to the accumulator.
3. Install the accumulator bracket and bolt to the vehicle.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
Tighten
Tighten the accumulator bracket bolt to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
4. Install a new seal washer.
5. Install the compressor hose assembly to the accumulator.
6. Install the compressor hose assembly nut to the accumulator.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
7. Install a new seal washer.
8. Install the evaporator hose to the accumulator.
9. Install the evaporator hose nut to the accumulator.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
10. Install the right front fender liner.
11. Lower the vehicle.
12. Recharge the refrigerant system.
13. Leak test the fittings of the component using the J 39400-A.
