Seat Back Recliner Replacement - Front (With RPO Code AF5)

SEAT BACK RECLINER REPLACEMENT - FRONT (WITH RPO CODE AF5)

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




1. Disable the SIR system, if equipped with Side Impact Air Bags (SIAB). Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 7 or to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 9 in Restraint Systems.

CAUTION: When performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, the SIR system must be disabled. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zones. Failure to observe the correct procedure could cause deployment of the SIR components, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.

2. Remove the front bucket seat.
3. Remove the outer trim panel from the seat cushion.
4. Unfasten the J-hook retainer located at the bottom of the seat back cover.
5. Unfasten the J-hook retainer located next to SIAB module, if equipped.
6. At the bottom of the seat back (1) remove the seat cushion lateral release knob from the recliner.
7. Remove the EZ entry adjuster cable (4) from the seat adjuster (3).
8. Remove the EZ entry adjuster cable (4) from the adjuster cable bracket (5).




9. Remove enough of the seat back pad and cover to access the recliner bolts (1).
10. Remove the seat recliner bolts (1,2).
11. Remove the recliner from the seat.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Install the recliner to the seat.
2. Install the recliner bolts (1,2).

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Tighten the bolts to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).




3. Install the seat back pad and cover to a desired appearance.
4. Install the EZ entry adjuster cable (4) to the seat adjuster (3).
5. Install the EZ entry adjuster cable (4) to the adjuster cable bracket (5).
6. Fasten the J-hook retainer located next to SIAB module, if equipped.
7. Fasten the J-hook retainer located at the bottom of the seat back cover.
8. At the bottom of the seat back (1) install the lateral release knob to the recliner. Press the lateral release knob till fully seated on the recliner.
9. Install the outer trim panel on the seat cushion.
10. Install the front bucket seat.
11. Reposition the seat back (1) to the original position.
12. Check seat back recliner for proper operation.
13. Enable the SIR system, if equipped with SIAB. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 7 or to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 9 in Restraint Systems.
