Ignition Lock Cylinder Case Replacement

Tools Required
^ J41396 Park Lock Cable Pliers

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in Service Precautions.

1. Disable the SIR system.
2. Remove the steering column from the vehicle. Steering Column
3. Remove the turn signal cancel cam.
4. Remove the ignition switch assembly.





5. Disconnect the park lock cable assembly (1).
The lock cylinder should be in the OFF-LOCK position.
6. Insert a small screwdriver into the slot on the ignition lock cylinder case assembly and push against the locking tab to remove.





7. Remove the 3 pan head tapping screws (2) from the ignition lock cylinder case assembly (1).
8. Remove the ignition lock cylinder case assembly (1).

Installation Procedure

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





1. Install the ignition lock cylinder case assembly (1) and secure by using 3 pan head tapping screws (2).
Tighten the screws to 7 Nm (62 inch lbs.).





2. Connect the park lock cable assembly (1).
^ The lock cylinder should be in the OFF-LOCK position.
^ Install the locking tab at the end of the park lock cable assembly (1) into the ignition lock cylinder case assembly.





3. Adjust the park lock cable assembly.
3.1. Use the gear shift lever to put the column in the PARK position.
3.2. Put the ignition switch in the OFF-LOCK position. Remove the key.
3.3. Unlock the adjuster ring (1) on the park lock cable assembly with J41396.
3.4. Pull on the cable until the park lock [etch contacts the gear shift lever. Release the cable.
3.5. Lock the adjuster ring (1) securely in place on the park lock cable assembly with J41396.

4. Inspect the park lock cable assembly.
4.1. Put the lock cylinder in the OFF-LOCK position. The gear shift lever should not be able to shift out of the PARK position.
4.2. Turn the key to the RUN position and put the gear shift lever in the NEUTRAL position.
4.3. With the gear shift lever in the NEUTRAL position the lock cylinder should not be able to go into the OFF-LOCK position.
4.4. Put the gear shift lever in the PARK position.
4.5. Put the lock cylinder in the OFF-LOCK position and then remove the key.
5. Install the ignition switch assembly.
6. Install the turn signal cancel cam.
7. Install the steering column into the vehicle.
8. Enable the SIR system.
