STEERING COLUMN JACKET REPLACEMENTTOOLS REQUIRED
J 21854-01 Pivot Pin Remover
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 in Restraint Systems.
Air Bag(s) Arming and Disarming
CAUTION: Refer to SIR Caution in Service Precautions.
2. Remove the lock cylinder.
3. Remove the multifunction switch.
4. Remove the windshield wiper and washer switch.
5. Remove the lock housing assembly.
6. Remove the ignition switch assembly.
7. Remove the tilt spring.
8. Remove the lower shaft components.
9. Remove the 2 pivot pins using J 21854-01.
10. Remove the bearing and housing assembly.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the bearing and housing assembly.
IMPORTANT: Replace the bearing and housing assembly and the pivot pins if the bearing and housing assembly has been staked 3 times.
2. Lubricate the pivot pins with GM P/N 12346293 (Canadian P/N 992723).
3. Install the 2 pivot pins.
4. Stake the pivot pins in 3 locations.
5. Install the lower shaft components.
6. Install the tilt spring only.
7. Install the Ignition switch assembly only.
8. Install the lock housing assembly.
9. Install the windshield wiper and washer switch.
10. Install the multifunction switch.
11. Install the lock cylinder.
12. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 in Restraint Systems.
