Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement

^ J44586 Power Steering Gear Oil Seal Remover/Installer
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the drive belt from the vehicle.
2. Remove the power steering hose retaining nut (1) from the retaining bracket (2).
3. Remove the pressure hose (4) from the power steering pump (1).
4. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
5. Remove the pressure hose (4) from the retaining bracket (6).
6. Remove the pressure hose (4) from the power steering gear (5).
7. Remove the pressure hose (4) from the vehicle.
8. Notice: Clean the power steering gear inlet and outlet ports thoroughly of any debris. Failure to do so could result in contamination and damage to the power steering system components.
Install the seal extraction end of the J44586 (2) to the power steering gear oil seal (1).
9. Extract the power steering gear oil seal (1) from the power steering gear using the J44586 (2) with the aid of a flat bladed tool (3) for additional leverage.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the NEW power steering gear oil seal (1) to the power steering gear using the seal installation end of the J44586 (2).
2. Ensure the power steering gear oil seals (1) are fully seated in the power steering gear.
3. Notice: Refer to Installing Hoses Without Twists or Bends Notice.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice.
Install the pressure hose (4) to the power steering gear (5).
Tighten the pressure hose to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.).
4. Install the pressure hose (4) to retainer (6).
5. Lower the vehicle.
6. Install the pressure hose (4) to the power steering pump (1).
Tighten the pressure hose to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.).
7. Install the power steering hose retaining bracket (2) and the retaining nut (1).
Tighten the retainer nut (1) to 5 Nm (45 inch lbs.).
8. Ensure the power steering hose has sufficient clearance from the exhaust manifold.
9. Install the drive belt to the power steering pump pulley.
10. Bleed the air from the power steering system.
