Cylinder Head Replacement - Right

Removal Procedure
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
2. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System.
3. Drain the engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement.
4. Lower the vehicle.
5. Remove the lower intake manifold.
6. Remove the valve rocker arms and push rods.
7. Remove the exhaust manifold.
8. Remove the right spark plug wires from the spark plugs.
9. Remove the right spark plugs.
10. Remove the fuel line bracket bolt and the stud.
11. Remove the fuel line bracket.
12. Remove the generator.
13. Remove the right exhaust manifold.
14. Remove the right cylinder head bolts and discard.
15. Remove the right cylinder head.
16. Remove the right cylinder head gasket.
17. Clean and inspect the cylinder head and the gasket mating surfaces. Refer to Engine Block Cleaning and Inspection and Cylinder Head Cleaning and Inspection.
Installation Procedure
1. Install a new right cylinder head gasket.
2. Install the right cylinder head over the locator pins and the gasket.
3. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
Install the new cylinder head bolts
1. Tighten the bolts in sequence to 60 Nm (44 ft. lbs.).
2. Use the J45059 to rotate the bolts in sequence an additional 95 degrees.
4. Install the right exhaust manifold.
5. Install the generator.
6. Install the fuel line bracket.
7. Install the fuel line bracket bolt and the stud.
Tighten the bolt and the stud to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).
8. Install the right spark plugs.
9. Install the right spark plug wires to the spark plugs.
10. Install the exhaust manifold.
11. Install the push rods and valve rocker arms.
12. Install the lower intake manifold.
13. Fill the crankcase with engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement.
14. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System.
15. Inspect for leaks.
