Headlamp: Service and Repair

HEADLAMP ASSEMBLY OR HEADLAMP BULB AND/OR CORNERING, SIDEMARKER, PARK, TURN SIGNAL BULB REPLACEMENT

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Open the hood.

CAUTION: Halogen bulbs contain gas under pressure. Handling a bulb improperly could cause it to shatter into flying glass fragments To help avoid personal injury:
- Turn off the lamp switch and allow the bulb to cool before changing the bulb.
- Leave the lamp switch OFF until the bulb change is complete.
- Always wear eye protection when changing a halogen bulb.
- Handle the bulb only by its base. Avoid touching the glass.
- Keep dirt and moisture off the bulb.
- Properly dispose of the used bulb.
- Keep halogen bulbs out of the reach of children.




2. Remove the bolts from the headlamp assembly.

IMPORTANT: Hold the headlamp to prevent damage to the headlamp or to the fascia.

3. Remove the push-in-retainers across the front fascia.
4. Remove the headlamp assembly.Lift the headlamp upward to release the locating tab from the front edge of the fender.




5. Disconnect the electrical connector from the headlamp assembly.
6. Remove the headlamp bulb access cover (3) by rotating the headlamp bulb access cover counterclockwise, if necessary.
7. Remove the headlamp bulb from the housing by rotating the socket counterclockwise, if necessary.
8. Disconnect the headlamp bulb electrical connector, if necessary.
9. Remove the park/turn bulb access cover by rotating the cover counterclockwise, if necessary.
10. Remove the park/turn bulb from the housing by rotating the socket counterclockwise, if necessary.




11. Gently pull the park/turn bulb from the socket, if necessary.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Install the park/turn bulb into the bulb socket.




2. Install the park/turn bulb socket into the headlamp housing by rotating the socket clockwise.
3. Install the park/turn bulb access cover (3) by rotating the cover clockwise.
4. Connect the headlamp bulb to the headlamp electrical connector.
5. Install the headlamp bulb into the headlamp housing. Rotate the socket clockwise until locked.
6. Install the headlamp bulb access cover by rotating the cover clockwise.




7. Position the headlamp assembly to the vehicle. Lift the headlamp upward to release the locating tab to the front edge of the fender.
8. Install the bolts to the headlamp assembly.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Tighten the bolts to 2 N.m (18 lb in).

9. Install the push-in-retainers across the front fascia.
10. Close the hood.
11. Inspect the headlamp alignment. Adjust the headlamp alignment, if necessary. Refer to Headlamp Aiming.
