Steering Wheel Replacement

Removal Procedure





1. Remove the upper steering column trim cover.

Caution: Refer to Restraint Systems in Service Precautions.

2. Disable the SIR system.
3. Remove the inflator module. Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement
4. Disconnect the steering wheel control electrical connector (1).
5. Remove the steering wheel nut.
6. Install J42578 and J1859-A to the steering wheel.





7. Use J42578 and J1859-A in order to remove the steering wheel.
8. Remove J42578 and J1859-A from the steering wheel.
9. Remove the controls and the control harness from the steering wheel.

Installation Procedure
1. Install the controls and the control harness to the steering wheel.





2. Route the steering column wiring through the steering wheel.
3. Install the steering wheel.





4. Connect the steering wheel control electrical connector (1).

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

5. Install the steering wheel nut.
Tighten the nut to 32 Nm (24 ft. lbs.).
6. Install the inflator module.
7. Install the upper steering column trim cover.
8. Enable the SIR system.
