Transmission Replacement
Removal Procedure
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
3. Disconnect the clutch actuator line from the clutch actuator.
4. Disconnect the select cable (3) from the transaxle select lever (1).
5. Disconnect the shift cable (4) from the transaxle shift lever (5).
6. Remove both cables from the cable bracket (2).
7. Remove the cable bracket bolt (1) and nuts (3).
8. Remove the cable bracket (2).
9. Disconnect the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) electrical connector and position the harness out of the way.
10. Disconnect the backup lamp switch electrical connector and position the harness out of the way.
11. Tie the radiator to the upper hood latch panel.
12. Install the engine support fixture.
13. Remove the upper transaxle mounting studs (1) and bolts (3).
14. Raise and support the vehicle.
15. Remove the front wheels and tires.
16. Remove the left front fender liner.
17. Disconnect the 2 front wheel speed sensor connectors.
18. Unclip the wheel speed sensor wire harness and position the harness out of the way.
19. Remove the frame.
20. Remove the starter.
21. Remove the transaxle front mount from the transaxle.
22. Remove the transaxle rear mount from the transaxle.
23. Remove the wheel driveshaft from the vehicle.
24. Lower the engine and transaxle assembly with the engine support fixture enough to clear the left side inner body panel.
25. Remove the front transaxle brace bolts (1).
26. Remove the front transaxle brace (2).
27. Remove the rear transaxle brace bolt (2).
28. Remove the lower transaxle mounting bolts (2, 3).
29. Support and remove the transaxle from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
1. Support and raise the transaxle into the vehicle.
2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
Install the lower transaxle mounting bolts (2, 3).
Tighten the bolts to 75 Nm (55 lb ft).
3. Install the rear transaxle brace bolt (2).
Tighten the bolt to 30 Nm (22 lb ft).
4. Install the front transaxle brace (2).
5. Install the front transaxle brace bolts (1).
Tighten the bolts to 50 Nm (37 lb ft).
6. Raise the engine and transaxle assembly with the engine support fixture into position.
7. Install the wheel driveshaft to the vehicle.
8. Install the transaxle front mount to the transaxle.
9. Install the transaxle rear mount to the transaxle.
10. Install the starter.
11. Install the frame.
12. Route the wheel speed sensor wire harness to the speed sensor.
13. Connect the wheel speed sensor electrical connectors.
14. Install the left front fender liner.
15. Install the front wheels and tires.
16. Lower the vehicle.
17. Install the upper transaxle mounting studs (1) and bolts (3).
Tighten the studs and bolts to 75 Nm (55 lb ft).
18. Remove the engine support fixture.
19. Connect the backup lamp switch electrical connector.
20. Connect the VSS electrical connector.
21. Install the cable bracket (2).
22. Install the cable bracket bolt (1).
Tighten the bolt to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).
23. Install the cable bracket nuts (3).
Tighten the nut to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).
24. Install both cables into the cable bracket (2).
25. Connect the shift cable (4) to the transaxle shift lever (5).
26. Connect the select cable (3) to the transaxle select lever (1).
27. Connect the clutch actuator line to the clutch actuator.
28. Install the air cleaner assembly.
29. Connect the negative battery cable.
