Assist Rod Replacement - Hood

Removal Procedure






Caution: When a hood hold open device is being removed or installed, provide alternate support to avoid the possibility of damage to the vehicle or personal injury.

1. Open and support the hood.
2. Use a small flat-bladed tool to remove the retainer clip (1) on the assist rod (6).
3. Remove the bolts (5) that attach the assist rod (6) to the fender.
4. Disconnect the assist rod (6) from the hood strut pin (2) and remove.
5. Remove the hood strut pin (2) and washer (4) from the hood (3), if necessary.



Installation Procedure






Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

1. Install the hood strut pin (2) and washer (4) to the hood (3), if removed.

Tighten the hood strut pin to 18 N.m (13 lb ft).

2. Connect the assist rod (6) to the hood strut pin (2).
3. Install the bolts (5) that attach the assist rod (6) to the fender.

Tighten the assist rod bolts to 12 N.m (106 lb in).

4. Install the retainer clip (1) to the assist rod (6).
5. Remove the support from the hood.
6. Close the hood.
