Trim Pad Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Upper

TRIM PAD REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) UPPER

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 and to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 5 in Restraint Systems.

CAUTION: Refer to SIR Caution in Service Precautions.

2. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure in Starting and Charging.

CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

3. Remove the floor console.
4. Remove the closeout insulator panels.
5. Remove the instrument panel compartment door.
6. Remove the instrument panel compartment lamp.
7. Remove the instrument panel compartment lamp switch.
8. Remove the instrument panel lower trim retainer panel.
9. Remove the instrument panel center trim.
10. Remove the instrument panel lower extension.
11. Remove the HVAC manual controls.
12. Remove the radio housing bracket. Replacement (Lower) in Radio, Stereo, and Compact Disc.
13. Remove the instrument cluster.
14. Remove the headlamp switch.
15. Remove the driver information center switch.
16. Remove the instrument panel outer covers.
17. Remove the windshield defroster grilles.
18. Remove the daytime running lamp control module.
19. Remove the instrument panel speakers.
20. Remove the cruise control switch.
21. Remove the wiper washer switch.
22. Remove the steering wheel.




23. Remove the 2 inner screws (1) attaching the instrument panel inflatable restraint (2) and instrument panel passenger's bracket and brace assembly (3) to the instrument panel inflatable restraint bracket.




24. Remove the 12 lower screws from the instrument panel pad.
25. Remove the 5 upper screws (1) from the instrument panel pad.
26. Remove the instrument panel pad from the vehicle.




27. From the rear side of the instrument panel pad, remove the 4 screws (3) attaching the instrument panel inflatable restraint opening trim cover (2) to the instrument panel inflatable restraint bracket (1).
28. While pushing on the trim cover (2), detach the 4 tabs (4) and remove the trim cover (2).




29. From the rear of the instrument pad, remove the 4 screws (2), attaching the instrument panel inflatable restraint bracket (3) to the pad assembly.
30. Remove the 6 screws (1), and remove the bracket (3) from the pad assembly.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Fit the bracket (3) in position, ensuring the lower screw hole tabs are positioned in the pad assembly.
2. Install the 6 screws (1) attaching the bracket (3) to the pad assembly.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Tighten the 6 screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).

3. Install the 4 screws (2), attaching the instrument panel inflatable restraint bracket (3) to the pad assembly.

Tighten the 4 screws to 9 N.m (80 lb in).




4. Locate the trim cover (2) in the pad assembly opening, and align the trim cover (2) with the 4 tabs (4).
5. Install the 4 screws (3) attaching the instrument panel inflatable restraint trim cover (2) to the inflatable restraint bracket (1).

Tighten the 4 screws to 9 N.m (80 lb in).




6. Install the instrument panel pad to the vehicle.
7. Install the 5 upper instrument panel pad screws (1).

Tighten the upper pad screws to 9 N.m (80 lb in).

8. Install the 12 lower instrument pad screws.

Tighten the lower pad screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).




9. Install the 2 inner screws (1) attaching the instrument panel inflatable restraint (2) and instrument panel passenger's bracket and brace assembly (3) to the instrument panel inflatable restraint bracket.

Tighten the inner screws to 9 N.m (80 lb in).

10. Install the steering wheel.
11. Install the wiper washer switch.
12. Install the cruise control switch.
13. Install the instrument panel speakers.
14. Install the daytime running lamp control module.
15. Install the windshield defroster grilles.
16. Install the instrument panel outer covers.
17. Install the instrument cluster.
18. Install the driver information center switch.
19. Install the headlamp switch.
20. Install the radio housing bracket.
21. Install the HVAC manual controls.
22. Install the instrument panel lower extension.
23. Install the instrument panel center trim.
24. Install the instrument panel lower trim retainer panel.
25. Install the instrument panel compartment lamp switch.
26. Install the instrument panel compartment lamp.
27. Install the instrument panel compartment door.
28. Install the closeout insulator panels.
29. Install the floor console.
30. Connect the battery ground cable.
31. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 and to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 5 in Restraint Systems.
