SIR DISABLING AND ENABLING ZONE 8
DISABLING PROCEDURE
1. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle's wheels are pointing straight ahead.
2. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
3. Locate and remove the SIR fuse from the instrument panel (I/P) fuse panel (1), which is located near the base of the steering column.
IMPORTANT: With the SIR fuse removed and the ignition switch in the ON position, the AIR BAG warning indicator illuminates. This is normal operation, and does not indicate an SIR system malfunction.
4. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
5. Remove the upper steering column trim cover.
6. Release the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil connector locking mechanism (3).
7. Disconnect the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil connector (1).
8. Remove the I/P compartment.
9. Release then unlock the I/P module connector (2).
10. Disconnect the I/P module connector (2).
ENABLING PROCEDURE
1. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
2. Install the connector (2) to the inflatable restraint I/P module (1).
3. Connect the connector and lock the connector with the connector lock mechanism.
4. Install the I/P compartment.
5. Install the connector (1) for the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil (2).
6. Lock the connector (1) with the connector lock mechanism (3).
7. Install the upper steering column trim cover.
8. Connect the battery negative cable.
9. Install the SIR fuse into the I/P fuse panel (1).
10. Use caution while reaching in and turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
11. The AIR BAG indicator will flash then turn OFF.
12. Perform the Vehicle Diagnostic System Check if the AIR BAG warning indicator does not operate as described. Refer to Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle. Testing and Inspection
