Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Replacement

Removal Procedure
1. Disconnect the upper and lower oil cooler pipes from the quick disconnect fittings at the radiator.
2. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
3. Plug all openings to prevent the system from contamination.
4. Remove the retaining bolt securing the transmission cooler pipes to the left hand front side of the engine.
5. Remove the retaining bolt securing the transmission cooler pipes to the Park/Neutral Position (PNP) switch.
6. Remove the transmission mount.
7. Slightly lower the transmission to gain access to the transmission cooler pipes.
8. Release the verifier disc (2) by pulling it backwards down the pipe.
9. Using J-41623-B, remove the transmission cooler pipes from the transmission.
10. Remove the transmission cooler pipes from the vehicle; separate the pipes, as necessary.
Installation Procedure
1. Position the transmission cooler pipes in the vehicle.
2. Remove the plugs from the cooler pipes; then wipe the pipe connector ends with a clean towel.
3. Apply a small amount of clean transmission fluid on the end of the pipes; then insert the pipes into the quick connect fittings on the radiator.
4. Apply a small amount of clean transmission fluid on the end of the pipes; then insert the pipes into the quick connect fittings in the transmission.
5. Push the verifier discs (2) over the transmission quick disconnect fittings to ensure that the pipes are seated correctly.
6. Notice:
Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
Install the retaining bolt securing the transmission cooler pipes to the left hand front side of the engine.
Tighten the bolt to 10 Nm (84 inch lbs.).
7. Install the retaining bolt securing the transmission cooler pipes to the PNP switch.
Tighten the bolt to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
8. Install the transmission mount.
9. Lower the vehicle.
10. Fill the transmission to the proper level with DEXRON III transmission fluid. Refer to Transmission Fluid Checking Procedure.
11. Ensure that the engine can only be started in the PNP positions, if adjustment is necessary, refer to Park/Neutral Position Switch Adjustment.
12. Check the reverse lamps for proper operation; if adjustment is necessary, refer to Park/Neutral Position Switch Adjustment.
