Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators: Description and Operation
INDICATOR/WARNING MESSAGE DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
INDICATORS
DIC WARNING MESSAGES
HEAD UP DISPLAY
CHECK GAGES
The head up display (HUD) illuminates the CHECK GAGES indicator. The HUD receives a message requesting illumination from the instrument panel cluster (IPC). The HUD illuminates the CHECK GAGES indicator when the IPC illuminates any of the following indicators:
- Charging system
- Engine coolant temperature Low fuel
- Low oil pressure.
CHANGE OIL SOON
The driver information center (DIC) illuminates the CHANGE OIL SOON message in the DIC when it determines that the engine oil life is less than 5 percent. The powertrain control module (PCM) or the engine control module (ECM) sends a class 2 message to the DIC requesting illumination. After the oil is changed, reset the engine oil monitor. Refer to Driver Information Center (DIC) Description and Operation in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
KM/H AND MPH INDICATORS
km/h
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) illuminates the km/h indicator when the driver information center (DIC) detects that metric units have been requested. The DIC monitors the signal circuit of the ENG/MET switch. The DIC sends a class 2 message indicating the requested units to the head up display (HUD).
MPH
The IPC illuminates the MPH indicator when the DIC detects that English units have been requested. The DIC monitors the signal circuit of the ENG/MET switch. The DIC sends a class 2 message indicating the requested units to the head up display (HUD).
LOW FUEL
The driver information center (DIC) illuminates the LOW FUEL message in the DIC when the DIC determines that the fuel level is less than a predetermined value. The DIC receives a class 2 message indicating the fuel level from the powertrain control module (PCM) or the engine control module (ECM).
LOW OIL LEVEL
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) illuminates the LOW OIL LEVEL message in the driver information center (DIC) when the powertrain control module (PCM) or the engine control module (ECM) detects low engine oil level, and the signal circuit is high. The PCM/ECM only monitors the signal circuit of the engine oil level switch for a brief period when the key moves from ON to START. The DIC receives a class 2 message requesting illumination from the PCM/ECM.
LOW OIL PRESSURE
The driver information center (DIC) illuminates the LOW OIL PRESSURE message in the DIC when the powertrain control module (PCM) or the engine control module (ECM) detects low engine oil pressure, and the signal circuit is low. The instrument panel cluster (IPC) receives a class 2 message requesting illumination from the DIC.
SERVICE VEHICLE SOON
The driver information center (DIC) illuminates the SERVICE VEHICLE SOON indicator when the powertrain control module (PCM) or the engine control module (ECM) detects certain malfunctions that are not related to the emissions system. The DIC receives a class 2 message requesting illumination from the PCM/ECM.
