Digital Radio Poor or No Reception



DIGITAL RADIO POOR OR NO RECEPTION

DIAGNOSTIC FAULT INFORMATION

IMPORTANT: Always perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle prior to using this diagnostic procedure. Testing and Inspection

CIRCUIT/SYSTEM VERIFICATION
1. Make sure the vehicle is outside in an area with an unobstructed view of the southern sky.
2. Tune the radio to satellite channel 1. Is the reception clear?
3. Tune the radio to several other satellite channels. Is the reception clear?
4. Contact XM at 1-800-852-9696 to verify customer account status or possible network problems. Did you find and correct the condition?
5. Ignition On, observe the scan tool Digital Radio Antenna parameter. The value should be between 1200 mV and 1800 mV.

CIRCUIT/SYSTEM TESTING
1. Disconnect the antenna cables from the digital radio receiver.
2. Ignition ON, test for 4.5-5.5 volts from the center conductor of the inboard antenna connector on the digital radio receiver (DRR) to one of the case screws.
- If voltage is between the specified values, test the antenna cables for an open, short, or high resistance. If any of these conditions are present, replace the antenna cable.
- If the antenna cable is good, test for poor connection at the digital radio antenna. If the connection is good, replace the digital radio antenna.
- If voltage is not between the specified values, inspect for poor connections at the DRR. If the connection is good, replace the DRR.

REPAIR VERIFICATION
Operate system to verify the repair.
