Luggage Compartment Description and Operation
Trunk Release
The rear compartment lid can be released by operating the interior trunk lid release switch or pressing the trunk release button on the keyless entry transmitter.
Trunk Release System Components
The trunk release system consists of the following components:
* Trunk release switch
* Instrument panel cluster (IPC)
* Remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR)
* Trunk release relay
* Trunk release actuator
When the trunk release switch is operated, the trunk release switch signal circuit from the body control module (BCM) is switched to ground. When the trunk release switch is seen is seen, the BCM grounds the trunk release relay via the trunk release relay control circuit. Grounding this circuit causes the trunk release relay to close the switch contacts and apply battery voltage to the trunk release actuator, opening the trunk.
Indicator Operation
When the trunk is ajar the trunk ajar switch is closed. This grounds the trunk ajar switch signal circuit to the BCM. The BCM then reports the switch status with a serial data message. The message is read by the IPC and a TRUNK AJAR message is displayed by the driver information center (DIC).
