Removal Procedure
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the hood.
3. Remove the radiator.
4. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief Procedure.
5. Disconnect the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister purge solenoid tube from the valve (1).
6. Disconnect the fuel feed pipe (2) from the fuel rail.
7. Reposition the radiator inlet hose clamp at the engine.
8. Remove the radiator inlet hose.
9. Reposition the radiator outlet hose clamps at the thermostat housing and oil cooler.
10. Remove the radiator outlet hose from the thermostat housing and oil cooler.
11. Reposition the outlet hose out of the way.
12. Reposition the surge tank outlet hose clamps at the thermostat housing and oil cooler.
13. Remove the surge tank outlet hose from the thermostat housing and oil cooler.
14. Reposition the surge tank outlet hose clamp at the surge tank.
15. Remove the surge tank clip from the oil level indicator tube bracket.
16. Remove the surge tank outlet hose.
17. Reposition the surge tank air bleed hose clamp at the engine.
18. Remove the surge tank air bleed hose from the engine.
19. Reposition the air bleed hose out of the way.
20. Reposition the heater inlet and outlet hose clamps at the thermostat.
21. Remove the heater inlet and outlet hoses from the thermostat.
22. Reposition brake booster vacuum hose clamp at the intake manifold.
23. Remove the brake booster vacuum hose from the intake manifold.
24. Remove the fuel feed and EVAP line clip from the oil level indicator tube bracket.
25. Remove the engine harness clips from the oil level indicator tube and the radiator outlet hose bracket.
26. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
27. Drain the engine oil.
28. Remove the catalytic converter to bracket bolt.
29. Disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor electrical connector (1).
30. Disconnect the oil pressure sensor electrical connector (2).
31. Remove the starter solenoid "S" terminal nut (3).
32. Remove the engine harness terminal (1) from the starter.
33. Remove the engine harness clip (1) from the intake manifold.
34. Remove the starter solenoid terminal nut (4).
35. Remove the positive battery cable clips (3, 6) from the intake manifold.
36. Remove the positive battery cable terminal (5) from the starter.
37. Lower the vehicle.
38. Remove the positive battery cable clip (7) from the bracket.
39. Cut the engine harness tie straps.
40. Remove the negative battery cable ground bolt.
41. Disconnect the generator electrical connector (1).
42. Reposition the positive battery cable terminal boot (4).
43. Remove the generator terminal nut (2).
44. Remove the positive battery cable terminal from the generator (5).
45. Disconnect the air conditioning compressor electrical connector (6).
46. Disconnect the knock sensor electrical connector (3).
47. Reposition the negative/positive battery cable.
48. Disconnect the A/C refrigerant pressure sensor electrical connector.
49. Disconnect the windshield wiper motor electrical connector.
50. Remove the engine harness clip from the wiper motor hole.
51. Remove the engine harness clip from the surge tank air bleed hose.
52. Disconnect the fuel injector electrical connector (1).
53. Disconnect the electronic throttle control (ETC) electrical connector (3).
54. Remove the engine harness clips (2, 5).
55. Disconnect the intake camshaft position (CMP) actuator electrical connector (1).
56. Disconnect the exhaust CMP actuator electrical connector (2).
57. Remove the engine harness clip (1) from the camshaft cover.
58. Disconnect the ignition coil electrical connectors.
59. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) retainers from the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) electrical connectors.
60. Disconnect the front HO2S electrical connector (1).
61. Disconnect the rear HO2S electrical connector (2).
62. Disconnect the engine harness clips (1) from the junction block bracket.
63. Disconnect the HO2S electrical connector clip (4) from the strut.
64. Disconnect the intake CMP sensor electrical connector.
65. Disconnect the exhaust CMP sensor electrical connector (1).
66. Remove the engine harness ground terminal bolt (2).
67. Disconnect the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor electrical connector (4).
68. Disconnect the EVAP canister purge solenoid electrical connector (1).
69. Disconnect the engine harness clip (2) from the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve bracket.
70. Disconnect the engine harness clips (3, 4) from the camshaft cover.
71. Remove the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve.
72. Remove the engine harness bracket bolt (1).
73. Disconnect the engine harness clip (2) from the bracket.
74. Gather all branches of the engine harness and lay off to the side.
75. Remove the A/C compressor bolts. Position the compressor off to the side.
76. Remove the catalytic converter nuts (1).
77. Remove the catalytic converter gasket (2) and converter.
78. Raise and support the vehicle.
79. Remove the muffler.
80. Remove the starter motor bolts and starter.
81. Remove the torque converter to flywheel bolts, if equipped with a automatic transmission.
82. Remove the lower bellhousing bolts.
83. Remove the bellhousing bolts.
84. Lower the vehicle.
85. Remove the left engine mount upper nut.
86. Remove the right engine mount upper nut.
87. Install a suitable engine lifting devise to the engine.
88. Separate the engine from the transmission.
89. Remove the engine from the vehicle.
90. Remove the following components:
^ The clutch pressure plate and disc
^ The flywheel-Refer to Engine Flywheel Removal.
91. Install the engine to an engine stand.
