Disc Brake Hardware Replacement - Front

Removal Procedure
1. Remove the following components. Refer to Brake Pads Replacement - Front. Brake Pads Replacement - Front
^ The caliper bolts
^ The inside pad wear indicator (3)
^ The outside pad wear indicator (5), if equipped
^ The pad insulators (2,8)
^ The insulators (1,7)
^ The 2 brake pad retainers (4,9)
2. Remove the sliding pins (17,21) from the caliper bracket (14).
3. Use a dull chisel and a hammer in order to remove the boots (2).

Inspection Procedure
1. Clean the 2 brake pad retainers (4,9). Inspect the retainers for the following conditions:
^ Sufficient rebound
^ No deformation
^ No cracks
^ No wear
^ No rust
^ No dirt
If the retainers meet the above conditions, re-use the retainers.
2. Inspect the caliper bracket for corrosion and wear. Replace the bracket if the bracket is damaged. Refer to Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement - Front.
3. Inspect the caliper housing for corrosion and wear. Replace the caliper if the caliper housing is damaged. Refer to Brake Caliper Replacement - Front. Brake Caliper Replacement- Front

Installation Procedure
1. Lubricate the insides of 2 NEW boots (15,20) with wheel bearing lubricant, GM P/N 1051344 (Canadian P/N 993037), or an equivalent lithium soap base glycol lubricant.
2 Use a 19 mm socket and a hammer in order to install the boots to the bracket (14). Verity the boots are firmly on the bracket.
3. Lubricate the sliding pins (17,21) with wheel bearing lubricant, GM P/N 1051344 (Canadian P/N 993037), or an equivalent lithium soap base glycol lubricant.
4. Install the sliding pin without the sliding bushing to the upper position in the bracket.
5. Install the sliding pin with the sliding bushing to the lower position in the bracket.
6. Install the upper brake pad retainer (4) to the caliper bracket.
7. Install the lower brake pad retainer (9) to the caliper bracket.
8. Install a new inner wear indicator (3) to the inner pad (10).
9. Install a new outer wear indicator (5), if equipped, to the outer pad (6).
10. Apply disc brake insulator silicone lubricant, GM P/N 1801908, or an equivalent lubricant, to both sides of a new inner pad insulator (2).
11. Install the inner pad insulator to the inner pad.
12. Install a new inner insulator (1) to the inner pad insulator.
13. Apply disc brake insulator silicone lubricant, GM P/N 1801908, or an equivalent lubricant, to both sides of a new outer pad insulator (8).
14. Install the outer pad insulator to the outer pad.
15. Install a new outer insulator (7) to the outer pad insulator.
16. Install the brake pads. Refer to Brake Pads Replacement - Front.
