Wheel Cylinder Replacement
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the brake shoes. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement (FWD) or Brake Shoe Replacement (AWD). Service and Repair
2. Use brake parts cleaner, GM P/N 12346139, or equivalent, in order to clean the wheel cylinder and the brake pipe.
3. Place a container below the backing plate in order to catch the brake fluid.
4. Remove the brake pipe (1) from the back of the wheel cylinder.
5. Remove the cap from the bleeder valve.
6. Remove the bleeder valve.
7. Remove the 2 bolts and the wheel cylinder (6).
Installation Procedure
1. Install the wheel cylinder (6) to the backing plate.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
2. Install the 2 bolts in order to retain the wheel cylinder to the backing plate.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 10 N.m (88.5 lb in).
3. Install the brake pipe fitting to the wheel cylinder.
Tighten
Tighten the brake pipe fitting to 15 N.m (11.1 lb ft).
4. Install the bleeder valve.
5. Install the brake shoes. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement (FWD) or Brake Shoe Replacement (AWD).
6. Bleed the brakes and tighten the bleeder valve. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding, in Hydraulic Brakes. Service and Repair
7. Install the cap to the bleeder valve.
