Water Pump: Service and Repair

Water Pump Replacement
Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Drain the cooling system.
3. Remove the accessory drive belt.
4. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
5. Remove the right side lower engine splash shield.
6. Remove the left side lower engine splash shield.
7. Remove the generator.
8. On LV6 engine, remove the water pump pulley.





9. On all engines, remove the following components from the vehicle:
^ The 6 water pump bolts (1, 2)
^ The water pump
10. Remove the O-ring from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure





1. Install a new O-ring to the vehicle.
2. Install the water pump to the vehicle.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. Use 6 bolts (1, 2) in order to secure the water pump.
^ On LV6 engine, tighten the water pump bolts (1) to 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.).
^ Tighten the water pump bolts (2) to 11 Nm (8 ft. lbs.).
^ On LNK engine, tighten the water pump bolts to 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.).
4. Install the left side lower engine splash shield.
5. Install the right side lower engine splash shield.
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. On LV6 engine, install the water pump pulley.
^ Tighten the water pump pulley bolts to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.).
8. On all engines, install the generator.
9. Install the accessory drive belt.

Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

10. Connect the negative battery cable.
11. Use approved engine coolant in order to fill the radiator.
12. Start the engine.
13. Inspect the system for leaks.
