Front Wheel Drive Shaft Oil Seal Replacement - Right

- J 26941 Pinion Shaft and Countergear Bearing Cup Remover
- J 23907 Slide Hammer
- J 36850 Transmission Assembly Lubricant
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the transfer case assembly from the vehicle.
2. Using a screwdriver, remove the transfer case oil seal from the transaxle.
3. Using J 26941 with J 23907, remove the differential case oil seal.
4. Inspect the differential-side joint surface of the drive axle assembly where the drive axle makes contact with the drive axle shaft seal. The surface should be smooth and free of any burrs or scarring which may damage the drive axle shaft fluid seal. If damage to the differential-side joint is evident, replace the differential-side joint.
Installation Procedure
Important: The install depth for the differential case oil seal is approximately 0.5 mm (0.020 inch)
1. Install the new differential case oil seal in the transaxle.
2. Important: The install depth for the transfer case oil seal is approximately 2.5 mm (0.098 inch)
Install the transfer case oil seal in the transaxle.
3. Apply J 36850 to the new drive axle seal lip.
4. Install the transfer case assembly.
