Fluid Pump and Torque Converter Housing Install

^ Tools Required
- J 36850 Transjel Lubricant
- J 7872 Magnetic Base Dial Indicator

Installation Procedure
1. Apply J 36850 to the new fluid pump seal.

2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Install the fluid pump assembly (2) onto transaxle case. Secure with the six bolts.
^ Tighten fluid pump bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).





3. Measure the input shaft end play using a J 7872.
^ Place the J 7872 on the end of the input shaft and gently move the input shaft up and down using 2 screwdrivers. Observe the J 7872.
^ Verify that the input shaft end play falls within 0.3 - 0.9 mm (0.012 - 0.035 inch).
^ If the input shaft does not fall within specification, replace the forward clutch outer bearing race on the end of the fluid pump stator shaft with a suitable size race.
^ The following are the 2 available forward clutch outer race sizes: 0.8 mm (0.031 inch) and 1.4 mm (0.055 inch).





4. Install the differential lubrication seal (1) into the transaxle case (2).





5. Install the differential assembly (2) into the transaxle case (1).
6. Apply RTV silicone sealer GM P/N 1052917, or equivalent, to the torque converter housing mating surface.





7. Important: There are two different lengths of torque converter housing bolts. Three of the seventeen bolts are 35 mm (1.38 inch) in length. The remaining fourteen are 30 mm (1.18 inch). Verify that all the bolts are installed in their correct positions.

Install the torque converter housing (3) onto the transaxle case. Secure the housing assembly with the seventeen bolts (2).
^ Tighten the torque converter housing bolts to 29 Nm (21 ft. lbs.).
