Gears Cleaning and Inspection

Tools Required
^ DT 46612 Brushing, Seal Installer





1. Measure the axle direction play (1) of side gear and replace a side gear washer if it exceeds limit.





2. After checking driver (1) and side gear (2) for worn or scratched thrust adjusting shim, replace it if necessary.

Assembly Procedure





1. Insert the differential left side bearing (2).

Important
Coat the inner parts of the bearing, washer, shim, etc. with gear fluid.

2. Install the differential left side bearing using the bushing, DT 46612, and a hammer.





3. Insert the speedometer drive gear (3).
4. Insert the differential right side bearing (2).
5. Install the right side bearing using the DT 46612 (1), and a hammer.





6. Insert the trust adjusting shims to the side gears.
7. Install the side gears (1).
8. Install the pinion gears and washers (2) simultaneously.





9. Insert the pinion gear shaft into the gear pin hole by rotating (2).

Important
Use only new pin.

10. Press the pinion gear pin using a pin punch and a hammer (1).





11. Fix the differential assembly to a vise.

Notice
Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

12. Install the differential ring gear (1) with the bolts (2).
Tighten the bolts to 80 - 100 Nm (59 - 74 ft. lbs.).
13. Install the differential assembly.
