Rear Compartment Lid Strut Stud Replacement (Convertible)
Description
If the studs on the tail are either broken or stripped, this procedure will remedy the problem.
Removal Procedure
1.Use a cut-off wheel to cut off the stud at the base of the stud.
1.Grind flat the remainder of the stud.
1.Using a center punch, locate the center of the removed stud. Mark the center.
1.Using a 1/8 in bit, drill a pilot hole
1.Use a 1/4 in drill bit to enlarge the hole.
2.Use a uni-bit to bevel the hole and countersink the stud. Make the base of the stud level with the tail panel surface.
Installation Procedure
1.Install the replacement stud. Ensure that the collar is level to the surface of the tail panel.
Important:Wrap the threads with tape to protect the threads from damage.
1.Use vise-grip pliers to verify the fit. Hold the pliers in place.
1.Weld as necessary.
1.Grind away the excess weld. Ensure that the weld is flush with the tail panel.
1.Refinish the part as necessary.
