Power Steering Gear Outlet Pipe/Hose Replacement



Power Steering Gear Outlet Pipe/Hose Replacement (LZ4, LZ9)

Tools Required

J 44586 Power Steering Gear Oil Seal Remover/Installer

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the intake manifold cover.




2. Compress the clamp (1) and disconnect the power steering reservoir inlet pipe (2) from the power steering gear outlet pipe (3).
3. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
4. Remove the right front tire and wheel.




5. Remove the 2 power steering gear inlet pipe routing pin-style retainers (1) from the RH side of the cradle.




6. Remove the 2 power steering gear inlet pipe routing pin-style retainers from the front of the cradle.




7. Remove the power steering gear inlet/outlet pipe retaining bolt (1), disconnect the inlet pipe (2) and outlet pipe (4) from the steering gear (3).
8. Remove the power steering gear outlet pipe from the vehicle.




9. Extract the power steering gear oil seal (1) from the power steering gear using the J 44586 (2) with the aid of a flat-bladed tool (3) for additional leverage.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the NEW power steering gear oil seal (1) to the power steering gear using the seal installation end of the J 44586 (2).




2. Ensure the power steering gear oil seals (1) are fully seated in the power steering gear.
3. Position the power steering gear outlet pipe to the vehicle.





Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice.

4. Connect the inlet pipe (2) and outlet pipe (4) to the steering gear (3) and install the power steering gear inlet/outlet pipe retaining bolt (1).

Tighten the retaining bolt to 27 N.m (20 lb ft).




5. Install the 2 power steering gear inlet pipe routing pin-style retainers to the front of the cradle.




6. Install the 2 power steering gear inlet pipe routing pin-style retainers (1) to the RH side of the cradle.
7. Install the right front tire and wheel.
8. Lower the vehicle.




9. Place the clamp (1) on the power steering gear outlet pipe (3) and install the gear outlet pipe (3) to the power steering reservoir inlet pipe (2).
10. Install the intake manifold cover.
11. Fill and bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding.
