Oil Pan: Service and Repair



Oil Pan Replacement

Tools Required

Removal Procedure




1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
3. Place a suitable drain pan under the oil pan drain plug.
4. Remove the oil pan drain plug and drain the engine oil from the crankcase.
5. Reinstall the oil pan drain plug until snug.
6. Remove the starter.




7. Remove the air conditioning (A/C) compressor bolts and position the compressor aside.
8. Remove the frame.




9. Disconnect the oil level sensor electrical connector.




10. Remove the transaxle brace to oil pan bolts.
11. Remove the transaxle brace to transaxle bolt and remove the brace.




12. Remove the transaxle brace to oil pan lower bolt (6), if equipped with regular production option (RPO) M15.




13. Remove the oil pan bolts (1, 2).
14. Remove the oil pan.
15. Remove and discard the oil pan gasket.
16. Clean the oil pan sealing surfaces.

Installation Procedure





1. Apply sealer to both sides of the crankshaft rear main bearing cap. Press the sealer into the gap using a putty knife. Refer to Sealers, Adhesives, and Lubricants .
2. Apply sealer to both sides of the front cover/block mating area. Refer to Sealers, Adhesives, and Lubricants .
3. Install a NEW oil pan gasket.
4. Position the oil pan to the engine.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice .

5. Install the oil pan bolts (1, 2).

* Tighten the bolts (1) to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
* Tighten the bolts (2) to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).




6. Install the transaxle brace to oil pan lower bolt (6), if equipped with RPO M15.

Tighten the bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).




7. Position the transaxle brace and install the transaxle brace to transaxle bolt until snug.
8. Install the transaxle brace to oil pan bolts.

Tighten the bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).




9. Connect the oil level sensor electrical connector.
10. Install the frame.




11. Position the A/C compressor and install the bolts.

Tighten the bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

12. Install the starter.
13. Ensure that the oil pan drain plug is tighten.

Tighten the drain plug to 26 N.m (19 lb ft).

14. Lower the vehicle.
15. Fill the crankcase.
16. Connect the negative battery cable.
