Condition

Some customers may comment of a popping, snapping or itching type noise when driving over rough roads. They may also comment that the noise appears to be coming from the convertible top because the noise is at ear level.

Cause

This condition may be caused by a loose pin in the door striker.

Correction

Use a large screw driver and apply slight pressure across the door striker pin. If a popping or snapping noise is heard, replace the door striker.

1. Using a soft marker or masking tape, outline the position of the striker.

2. Remove the upper retaining screw and loosen the bottom one.

3. Rotate the striker downward.

4. With a small screw driver, align the anchor plate and install the screw.

5. Remove the lower screw and discard the striker.

6. Install the new striker and the lower screw.

7. Remove the upper screw and rotate the striker back in place.

8. With a small screw driver, align the anchor plate and install the screw.

Tighten

Tighten the screw to 20 Nm (15 lb ft).

9. Check the alignment of the door to the door striker. Refer to Door Lock Striker Adjustment in SI.
