Inflatable Restraint Front End Sensor Replacement

Removal Procedure


Caution: Do not strike or jolt the inflatable restraint front end sensor. Before applying power to the front end sensor make sure that it is securely fastened. Failure to observe the correct installation procedure could cause SIR deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.

Caution: Refer to SIR Caution (SIR Caution) .
1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling (Service and Repair) .
2. Remove the radiator upper air baffle and deflector. Refer to Radiator Air Upper Baffle and Deflector Replacement (Service and Repair) .




3. Remove the sensor bolts (1).
4. Remove the sensor (2) from the upper radiator core support (3).




5. Remove the orange connector position assurance (CPA) (2) from the yellow sensor harness connector (3).
6. Disconnect the harness connector from the sensor (1).
7. Remove the sensor from the vehicle.



Installation Procedure

1. Remove any dirt, grease, or other impurities from the mounting surface.




2. Connect the harness connector (3) to the sensor (1).
3. Install the orange CPA (2) into the yellow sensor harness connector (3).





Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice .

4. Position the sensor (2) horizontally on the upper radiator core support (3).
5. Point the arrow on the sensor toward the front of the vehicle.
6. Install the sensor bolts (1).

Tighten the bolts to 9 N.m (80 lb in).

7. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling (Service and Repair) .
8. Install the radiator upper air baffle and deflector. Refer to Radiator Air Upper Baffle and Deflector Replacement (Service and Repair) .
