Condition

Some customers may comment that the check engine light is illuminated. Additional comments may be that the vehicle was exhibiting a hesitation and/or had the "Reduced Engine Power" symbol or message displayed.

When checking for DTCs in the powertrain control module (PCM), codes P1125, P2101, P2120, P2125 or P2138 may be found.

Cause

This condition may be caused by moisture or water inside electrical connector X101 located on the left strut (shock) tower.

Correction

Perform the repair listed below.

1. Detach the electrical connector X101 from the left strut (shock ) tower.

2. Using a small pocket-size screwdriver, carefully reposition the wire seal out of the connector body. Do this on both sides of the connector.

3. With the seals out of the way, inspect for the presence of moisture or water inside the connector.

4. Using compressed air, remove any moisture or water from the connector cavities and terminals.

5. Fill the cavities on both sides of the connector with Dielectric Lubricant, P/N 12377900 (in Canada, use P/N 10953529).

6. Reinstall the wire seals into both halves of the connector body.

7. Wipe away any lubricant that may have oozed out onto the outside of the connector.

8. Seal the outside of the connector halves to prevent the reoccurrence of moisture or water.

^ If available, wrap the outside of each connector half with a *3M Scotch(R) Electrical Moisture Sealant Tape, P/N 06149. Each side of the connector will require two patches to seal the connector halves and wires.

^ If the 3M product is not available, then wrap the outside of both connector halves and wires in black electrical tape.

9. Reattach the connector to the strut (shock) tower.

10. Using a Tech 2(R), clear the DTCs.
