Diagnostic Fault Information
Circuit/System Description
The rear compartment lid can be released by holding the driver or passenger door lock switches in the UNLOCK position for 1.5 seconds or by pressing the rear compartment lid release button on the remote keyless entry transmitter. The gear selector must be in PARK in order for the rear compartment to release.
The driver or passenger power door lock switches supply the signal to the body control module (BCM) which when commanded supply battery positive voltage through the latch motor voltage control circuit to the rear compartment lid latch. The rear compartment lid latch, which is grounded to G302, then releases the rear compartment lid so that it may be manually raised to an open position.

Circuit/System Verification
1. Observe the function of the power door locks by using the appropriate power door lock switch, all doors should LOCK and UNLOCK.
• If the power door locks do not LOCK or UNLOCK, refer to Power Door Locks Inoperative (Power Door Locks Inoperative) .
2. Ignition ON, command the trunk release with the scan tool. The rear compartment lid latch should release the rear compartment lid.
Circuit/System Testing
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the rear compartment lid latch.
2. Ignition OFF, test for less than 1.0 ohm of resistance between the ground circuit terminal 3 and ground.
• If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
3. Connect a test lamp between the control circuit terminal 4 and the ground circuit terminal 3.
4. Ignition ON, command the trunk release ON and OFF with a scan tool. The test lamp should turn ON and OFF when changing between the commanded states.
• If the test lamp is always ON, test the control circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
5. If the test lamp is always OFF, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
6. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the rear compartment lid latch.
Component Testing
Static Test
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the rear compartment lid latch.
2. Test for 5-8 ohms of resistance between the control terminal 4 and the ground terminal 3 of the rear compartment lid release actuator.
• If not within the specified range, replace the rear compartment lid latch.
3. Test for infinite resistance between each terminal and the rear compartment lid latch housing/case.
• If not the specified value, replace the rear compartment lid latch.
Dynamic Test
Important: Apply power and ground to the rear compartment lid latch for no more than 2 seconds at a time or the actuator could be damaged.
Install a 20-amp fused jumper wire between the voltage control circuit terminal and 12 volts. Momentarily install a jumper wire between the ground terminal and ground. The deck lid should open.
If the function does not perform as specified, replace the lid latch.
Repair Instructions
Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification (Verification Tests) after completing the diagnostic procedure.
* Rear Compartment Lid Latch Replacement (Service and Repair)
* Control Module References (Programming and Relearning) for BCM replacement, setup, and programming
