Indicator/Warning Message Description and Operation
Indicator/Warning Message Description and Operation
CHECK GAGES
The head up display (HUD) illuminates the CHECK GAGES indicator. The HUD receives a serial data message requesting illumination from the instrument panel cluster (IPC). The HUD illuminates the CHECK GAGES indicator when the IPC illuminates any of the following indicators:
* Charging system
* Engine coolant temperature
* Low fuel
* Low oil pressure.
CHANGE OIL SOON
The driver information center (DIC) illuminates the CHANGE OIL SOON message in the DIC when it determines that the engine oil life is less than 5 percent. The powertrain control module (PCM) or engine control module (ECM) sends a serial data messages to the DIC requesting illumination. After the engine oil is changed, reset the engine oil monitor. Refer to Driver Information Center (DIC) Description and Operation (Description and Operation) .
Door Ajar Indicator
Each door lock contains a door ajar switch. The door ajar switch(es) are an integral part of each door lock system and are not serviced separately. The body control module (BCM) supplies voltage to each door ajar switch. Ground for each door ajar switch is provided by a ground circuit connected to a ground stake. When the doors are closed, the door ajar switch contacts are open. When a door is ajar, the door ajar switch contacts are closed and the BCM interprets the flow of voltage as a discrete input from the door ajar switch. The BCM sends the request to illuminate the corresponding door ajar message, via the serial data circuit to the DIC. The DIC illuminates the appropriate door ajar message based on the serial data message from the BCM.
Km/h and MPH Indicators
km/h
- The instrument panel cluster (IPC) illuminates the km/h indicator when the driver information center (DIC) detects that metric unit have been requested. The DIC monitors the signal circuit of the ENG/MET switch. The DIC sends a serial data message indicating the requested unit to the head up display (HUD).
MPH
- The IPC illuminates the MPH indicator when the DIC detects that English unit have been requested. The DIC monitors the signal circuit of the ENG/MET switch. The DIC sends a serial data message indicating the requested unit to the head up display (HUD).
LOW FUEL
The driver information center (DIC) displays the LOW FUEL message in the DIC when the DIC determines that the fuel level is less than a predetermined value. The DIC receives a serial data message indicating the fuel level from the powertrain control module (PCM) or engine control module (ECM).
LOW OIL LEVEL
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the LOW OIL LEVEL message in the driver information center (DIC) when the powertrain control module (PCM) or the engine control module (ECM) detects a low engine oil level. The PCM/ECM only monitors the signal circuit of the engine oil level switch for a brief period when the ignition key moves from ON to START. The DIC receives a serial data message from the PCM/ECM requesting the display of the LOW OIL LEVEL message.
LOW OIL PRESSURE
The driver information center (DIC) displays the LOW OIL PRESSURE message in the DIC when the powertrain control module (PCM) or the engine control module (ECM) detects low engine oil pressure, and the signal circuit is low. The instrument panel cluster (IPC) receives a serial data message requesting display of the LOW OIL PRESSURE message from the DIC.
Rear Compartment Lid Release
The rear compartment lid can be released by depressing the rear release button in the glove box or holding either front power door lock switch to the unlock position for a minimum of 2 seconds or by pressing the rear compartment release button on the key fob. The transmission must be in the PARK position for the rear compartment to release.
SERVICE VEHICLE SOON
The driver information center (DIC) displays the SERVICE VEHICLE SOON indicator when the powertrain control module (PCM) or the engine control module (ECM) detects certain malfunctions that are not related to the emissions system. The DIC receives a serial data message requesting display of the SERVICE VEHICLE SOON message from the PCM/ECM.
