Cruise Control Indicator Malfunction

Diagnostic Instructions

* Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle (Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview) prior to using this diagnostic procedure.
* Review Strategy Based Diagnosis (Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview) for an overview of the diagnostic approach.

Circuit/System Description

The body control module (BCM) monitors the cruise control indicator switch. When the cruise on/off switch is switched ON, the cruise control switch is closed and the cruise indicator signal circuit is high. When the cruise on/off switch is pressed OFF, the cruise control switch is open and the cruise indicator signal circuit is low.

Circuit/System Verification

Important: Inspect for proper operation of the cruise control system. Do not perform this diagnostic if DTC B3794 is stored in the BCM or if the cruise control system is malfunctioning. Refer to DTC B3794 (B3794) if this DTC is set in the ECM as current or history or to Cruise Control Malfunction (Cruise Control Malfunction) .

Ignition ON, observe the cruise control indicator while applying the cruise on/off switch. The indicator should turn on and off accordingly with the applied switch.

Circuit/System Testing

1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the steering wheel controls switch - left.
2. Ignition OFF, verify that a test lamp illuminates between battery voltage and the ground circuit terminal 7.

If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the ground circuit terminal 7 for an open/high resistance.

3. If all circuits test normal, replace the steering wheel controls switch - left.

Repair Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification (Verification Tests) after completing the diagnostic procedure.
