Parking Brake Cable: Service and Repair




Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement
Warning: Refer to Brake Dust Warning Brake Dust Warning.


Removal Procedure

1. Ensure that the park brake lever is in the fully released position.
2. Remove the floor console. Refer to Console Replacement Console Replacement.
3. Remove the rear carpet. Refer to Rear Floor Panel Carpet Replacement Rear Floor Panel Carpet Replacement.




4. Remove the right rear park brake cable (1) or the left rear park brake cable (2) from the console park brake bracket (5) and the front park brake cable equalizer (6).
5. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.




6. Remove the plastic retainer clip (1) from the body.
7. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation Service and Repair.




8. Remove the rear park brake cable retainer bolt (1).




9. Remove the rear park brake cable from the caliper park brake lever.
10. Lower the vehicle.




11. Remove the plastic retainer clip (3) from the stud.
12. Remove the park brake cable and pass-thru grommet (4) from the body and remove the cable from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the park brake cable to the vehicle.
2. Install the park brake cable and pass-thru grommet (4) to the body.
3. Install the plastic retainer clip (3) to the stud.
4. Raise the vehicle.




5. Install the rear park brake cable to the caliper park brake lever.





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

6. Install the rear park brake cable retainer bolt (1).

Tighten the bolt to 10 Nm (89 lb in).




7. Install the plastic retainer clip (1) to the body.
8. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation Service and Repair.
9. Lower the vehicle.




10. Install the right rear park brake cable (1) or the left rear park brake cable (2) to the console park brake bracket (5) and the front park brake cable equalizer (6).
11. Install the rear carpet. Refer to Rear Floor Panel Carpet Replacement Rear Floor Panel Carpet Replacement.
12. Install the floor console. Refer to Console Replacement Console Replacement.
13. Cycle the park brake lever 3-5 times.
